Oei, influencer Alix Earle wordt gecanceld vanwege oude posts
Influencer Alix Earle krijgt het op het internet momenteel zwaar te verduren. In 2014 was ze actief op het platform Ask.fm, waar ze dingen heeft gezegd die niet door de beugel kunnen. Nu krijgt ze te maken met veel kritiek van fans op haar socials.

Alix Earle gebruikte het n-woord
Alix Earle krijgt momenteel veel kritiek voor uitspraken die ze heeft gedaan op het platform Ask.fm in 2014. Earle was toentertijd dertien jaar oud. In de posts die ze in 2014 heeft geplaatst, zou ze gebruik hebben gemaakt van het n-woord. Op Ask.fm konden gebruikers elkaar vragen stellen en deze beantwoorden. Eind vorige maand plaatste ze een statement op haar Instagram Story waarin ze haar excuses aanbood voor haar woorden.
“A couple of weeks ago, screenshots surfaced from my old ask.fm account showing me using a slur in the summer of 2014,” schreef Alix Earle. “I am taking accountability and want to make it clear that I was 13 years old and did not understand the deeply offensive meaning behind that word. That is no excuse for using that word in any context or at any age. That is absolutely not the way I speak or what I stand for.”
“I am deeply sorry that my words have hurt many and have led people to believe that I have any prejudice in my heart. I promise you that could not be further from the truth.”

Naast de controverse omtrent het gebruik van het n-woord, kwam Earle in het nieuws omdat er werd gedacht dat ze haar racistische post zou hebben getrademarked. Dit zou dan als doel hebben gehad om te voorkomen dat mensen de post gingen delen. De originele post van Earle werd in 2023 al gedeeld op Reddit. Hierdoor kwam het terecht bij Jessi Smiles en Lily Marston, de hosts van de podcast 'Do We Know Them?'. De twee hosts zouden zijn benaderd door de advocaten van Earle. Deze zouden hebben gezegd dat ze de post niet mochten gebruiken in hun content vanwege hun trademark. Earle reageerde op deze speculaties en noemde het "absolutely ridiculous and untrue.
“In the absence of my addressing this, my silence allowed others to fill the void with rumors that simply aren’t true,” schreef Alix Earle.
“I regret how I handled this situation, allowing too many people to talk me out of saying something for too long,” voegde ze toe. “I wasn’t sure how to handle it and unfortunately the advice I was given, although well intended, was wrong. There is no one to blame but myself for not standing my ground and going with my gut to speak right away.”
